The Crawling Eye2313 viewsDoes anybody remember the old movie "The Crawling Eye" ? Or did I just embarrass myself ? The fog here is rolling over the Verdugo Hills and into the La Canada / La Crescenta Valley. It looks as though it is heading straight towards Jet Propulsion Laboratory located in the lower right of the photo.

Strong winds buffeted Southern California last night and this morning causing wide spread damage. Fallen trees, downed power lines, etc. Sustained winds at my station were 30 mph with gusts as high as 42 mph. Combined with extremely low humidity, these conditions have prompted a Red Flag Fire Alert. These palm trees were all leaning to the South as the winds roared out of the North.

Me And My Shadow2468 views5/27/05
Taken from about 22,000 feet, flying from Oakland to Burbank, I saw this lone cloud above the Frazier Park area Northwest of Los Angeles. The shadow from the cloud can be seen on the ground below. I had someone tell me the cloud looked like a buffalo lying on it s side.

Mount Wilson Socked In2573 viewsThis was taken the morning of 9/15/06. We were on Mount Waterman (8,000 ft elev) setting up Radio Equipment for the upcoming Angeles Crest 100 Mile Endurance Run. Looking back at Mount Wilson (5700 ft elev), you could just see the antennas sticking up through the clouds.

Sundown Dunes2568 viewsThe setting Sun was casting an orange hue on the Sand Dunes at Dumont. Dumont is located 30 miles North of Baker CA near the Southern tip of Death Valley. It was a windy day and the winds in the upper atmosphere were affecting the clouds. I m not sure I would classify this cloud as Lenticular but it was getting close. Taken 3/25/06.

Exploding Cloud2522 viewsAnother cloud formed by strong upward convection in unstable air. In this photo taken at Lake Havasu, the nearly explosive vertical development of this cloud was awesome.

Havasu Lightning2633 viewsI captured this lightning using my first Digital Camera, an Olympus C-5050Z. I had it in "Manual" mode set for the maximum exposure of 16 seconds. I took quite a few exposures this way during the lightning storm.
