The Crawling Eye2314 viewsDoes anybody remember the old movie "The Crawling Eye" ? Or did I just embarrass myself ? The fog here is rolling over the Verdugo Hills and into the La Canada / La Crescenta Valley. It looks as though it is heading straight towards Jet Propulsion Laboratory located in the lower right of the photo.Nov 23, 2006

A beautiful warm evening here in the Los Angeles area. 95 degrees at my station in Altadena today. I spent the evening in the back yard to watch a visible pass of the International Space Station (ISS) and took some photos of the evening sky. The brightest object is Venus, the "Evening Star". Moving 45 degrees from Venus to the upper left you see Mars and then Saturn. A beautiful alignment of three of the visible planets.

All Together Now2308 viewsTaken 1/23/06
Strong winds buffeted Southern California last night and this morning causing wide spread damage. Fallen trees, downed power lines, etc. Sustained winds at my station were 30 mph with gusts as high as 42 mph. Combined with extremely low humidity, these conditions have prompted a Red Flag Fire Alert. These palm trees were all leaning to the South as the winds roared out of the North.

A great thunderstorm was blowing through my town. I went into the backyard and started taking time exposures with my Olympus Digital Camera. I was lucky to capture this nice bolt.

Me And My Shadow2470 views5/27/05
Taken from about 22,000 feet, flying from Oakland to Burbank, I saw this lone cloud above the Frazier Park area Northwest of Los Angeles. The shadow from the cloud can be seen on the ground below. I had someone tell me the cloud looked like a buffalo lying on it s side.

Desert Five Spot1943 viewsThis delicate purple flower is named for the five red spots which can be seen inside the round bloom. The information I read implied that this was a rare desert flower. The very wet winter brough out quite a few of these flowers.Nov 21, 2006
