Sundown Dunes2569 viewsThe setting Sun was casting an orange hue on the Sand Dunes at Dumont. Dumont is located 30 miles North of Baker CA near the Southern tip of Death Valley. It was a windy day and the winds in the upper atmosphere were affecting the clouds. I m not sure I would classify this cloud as Lenticular but it was getting close. Taken 3/25/06.

Cumulonimbus2524 viewsI was flying back from Boston and got a chance to see some spectacular weather from the air. We were heading West over Arizona and the hot afternoon Sun was creating some beautiful Cumulonimbus clouds. We were flying at approximately 32,000 Feet and the Thermal Convection was driving these clouds well above us. Taken July 23, 2007.

Exploding Cloud2524 viewsAnother cloud formed by strong upward convection in unstable air. In this photo taken at Lake Havasu, the nearly explosive vertical development of this cloud was awesome.

Me And My Shadow2469 views5/27/05
Taken from about 22,000 feet, flying from Oakland to Burbank, I saw this lone cloud above the Frazier Park area Northwest of Los Angeles. The shadow from the cloud can be seen on the ground below. I had someone tell me the cloud looked like a buffalo lying on it s side.

Building A Burm2450 viewsBuilding A Burm taken 12/30/05
Several storms out in the Pacific were beginning to affect Northern California with heavy rain. These same storms were causing heavy surf all along the coast. A large west-northwest swell continued to affect the outer coastal waters of Southern California today. Breakers of 8 to 12 feet, with locally higher sets, pounded the coastline. In thid photo, Los Angeles City Fire Dept Bulldozers build a burm of sand to protect the businesses and residences along Venice Beach.

Island in The Sky2424 viewsTaken 10/23/05
This was taken at the end of the Kagel Canyon Truck Trail in the Angeles National Forest above the San Fernando Valley. It was sort of an overcast day but at approximately 3550 Above Sea Level we were above the haze. This was the view looking West toward Oat Mountain.

Lightning 9/4/20112402 viewsOur hair was standing on end as we were finishing our dinner. I grabbed the Camera and Tripod and set up for some long time exposures. This bolt of Lightning seen looking South with the Cabana in the foreground.

Wind Over My Station2353 viewsTaken 1/23/06
Strong winds buffeted Southern California last night and this morning causing wide spread damage. Fallen trees, downed power lines, etc. Sustained winds at my station were 30 mph with gusts as high as 42 mph. Combined with extremely low humidity, these conditions have prompted a Red Flag Fire Alert. Here, the wind is bending over the tree in my front yard with my Weather Station s Anemometer and Rain Bucket in the foreground.
