On The Wrong Track2533 viewsTaken 1/11/05
This photo taken along the Union Pacific Tracks by the Arroyo Las Posas in Somis, CA. After 5 days of heavy rain (14.38 inches at my station in Altadena) this river undermined the tracks and left them hanging high and dry. Unfortunately it took Fiber Optic Cables with it. AT&T, MCI, Sprint and Level 2 all experienced outages related to this slide.

Comet Holmes2526 viewsComet Holmes 11-5-2007.

Comet Holmes has been known for more than a century. But a recent change has brought much attention. The comet’s brightness has increased dramatically.

This is a photo taken with a 75-300 Zoom Lens on my Canon Digital Rebel. Comet Holmes can be seen in the Constellation Perseus.

The bright star near the top of the frame is Mirfak, also called Alpha Persei. Comet Holmes is below and to the left. It appears as a fuzzy circle with a bright center.

There is some speculation that Comet Holmes may have been struck by a meteor, producing this large dust cloud which is being illuminated by the Sun.

Purple Mountain's Majesty2497 viewsTaken 9/16/06
The setting Sun and smoke from the "Day" Fire combined with the rugged San Gabriel Mountains created this interesting gradation of color and tone.

Wood Fairies2496 viewsTaken 11/12/06
Have you ever heard stories about the Wood Fairies? It has to do with Fairies escaping from the wood burned in campfires. I’m not sure where the story originated but apparently its true. Can you see them in the photo leaving the fire?

Closer To Home2487 viewsSunday brought the fire even closer to home. Burning hotter and faster the fire can be seen erupting behind the ridge in Millard Canyon.
