Lowe Fire 12610 viewsA small brush fire in Altadena, CA, 8/26/07, was brought under control quickly by Angeles National Forest and Los Angeles County Fire Crews. Due to the rough terrain, the fire was fought primarily from the air with the support of Camp Crews. In this photo, one of the new BlackHawk Helicopters used by Los Angeles County Fire snorkels water from a "Pumpkin" set up at a nearby Helispot. The BlackHawks can carry 1,000 Gallons compared to 300 carried by older Helicopters.
Photo by my Brother Dan Westphal.

Lunar Eclipse August 28, 20072600 viewsThe Moon is just beginning to emerge from the Umbra. The red glow of the eclipsed Moon can be seen as usual but I was also looking for the "Turquoise" that I had been reading about lately.
I saw it in person. It was beautiful.
I had a hard time focusing though (as you can tell).

Lady Bugs2600 viewsThis photo, as well as the other Lady Bug photo was taken at the 8000 ft level of Mount Waterman in the San Gabriel Mountains. I was surprised to see so many in one place at one time. Looks like they're enjoying themselves.
