Smokey Sunset2113 viewsNow this would have been a beautiful sunset if it wasn't for the circumstances. The phrase "red sky at night, sailors delight" does not apply here.

The oldest and most important festival in China is called the Spring Festival. Many people call it the Chinese New Year. No matter what you call it, it is a time of celebration for millions of Chinese people all over the world. The Chinese calendar has a 12 year cycle and each year is named after an animal. People born in each of these years are said to have certain characteristics. The year 2006 is the Year of the Dog. People born in the Year of the Dog are said to be very loyal.

Cooler temperatures aloft and lack of a Coastal Eddy prohibited formation of the Marine Layer last night. Warmer temperatures and clear skies are forecast for the rest of the week. This is a welcome change from our traditional “June Gloom” here in Los Angeles. This shot was taken at 6:15 a.m. from approximately 2.5 miles Northeast of Downtown Los Angeles. Kilauea is the world’s most active volcano. Once thought to be part of the Mauna Loa Volcano, it is now known to be a separate unique volcano. All the current activity on Kilauea is at the Pu’u O’o Vent. Lava flows from Pu’u O’o Vent into the ocean. This photo was taken at approximately 6:53 p.m. from a distance of about 2 miles. The red glow of molten lava can be seen as it flows into the ocean creating tall plumes of steam.

Grand Central Market in Downtown Los Angeles. I took this while experimenting with my first Digital Camera, an Olympus C-5050. I thought it was a beautiful medley of food, people and color.
