Skycrane2403 viewsThe Sikorsky "Skycrane" was originally designed for the military. It has interchangeable pods for a variety of uses. We were particularly interested in the water tank pod today. It can hold 2,650 Gallons of water and you see it here, dumping all 2,650 Gallons on the fire as it moves up Sunset Ridge.

Fire Sun2116 viewsTaken 9/30/05
Other than re-sizing this photo, no color or contrast correction was done. This is the view of the Sun looking through the smoke from the Burbank Fire.

Early Draconid Meteor2921 viewsNormally seen in early October, This may be an early Draconid Meteor. One of the Altadena WeatherCam regular viewers, Carol Doupe' Canterbury, brought this to my attention. Thank you Carol. Keep watching. Info about the Draconids can be seen in the other Draconid Meteor image in this gallery.

Double Rainbow 9/4/20113888 viewsA high pressure system over the four corners area combined with a low pressure system off the southern california coast steered subtropical moisture into Southern California this evening. This provided Altadena residents with rare summer showers and a thunderstorm this evening.

This double Rainbow was seen at Sunset.

The Bear Is Back2847 viewsThe Bear is back after a short hiatus. I had heard that Bears don’t hibernate in warm climates like Southern California but maybe this one actually did hibernate for a short time.

He was actually on the street 3 nights in a row this week. He got into trash cans on a couple of nights and left a large pile of Scat in the street. Leila was excited. She was picking up the Bear’s scent on our morning walk.

Two Times The Fun2867 viewsThis image clearly makes me think we have more than one bear visiting Holly Slope Rd. This ones color is more black and has what appears to be a White Chest Blaze. Maybe they are a couple?
